FAMILY AS A PROCESS

Each family is on a continuum which is constantly changing. Over time, the family can be at any point on this continuum. They can be happy with their family units, or unhappy. It is always changing.
Second, family quality varies over time. Growing up in my family, my brothers and I used to fight all the time! We were always picking on one another and trying to make everyone miserable. As we have gotten older and wiser, we have become best friends. Besides my husband, I truly consider my brothers and parents as my best friends. We are supportive and constantly want the best for each other.
Third is how each family is idiosyncratic and unique. Each family enjoys participating in activities or traditions together. For example, my family has the tradition of going camping each summer together. We camp in Island Park and love spending time in the outdoors. We enjoy going on long four-wheeler rides together and hiking in the woods. Fourth stresses the importance that perfection should be thought of as ideal, but not a reality. We can have the desire to be perfect, but we shouldn't focus on the fact that it is going to happen. Nobody is perfect, so we won't always get perfect results.
